15.1 — Printing principles

CMYK · resolution
paper and finishing

A printed piece that is badly set up can look perfect on screen and come back from the printer with the wrong colors, white edges or blurred text. These problems are avoidable — as long as the right settings are applied before the file is closed.

Color mode
Always CMYK for print. Never send an RGB file to a printer — the printed colors come out dull and desaturated.
CMYK · Coated FOGRA 39
Resolution
Images and photographs at 300dpi minimum. Files below 150dpi come out of the printer blurred — without exception.
300dpi minimum · 350dpi ideal
Delivery format
Always PDF/X-4 or PDF/X-1a for printers. Fonts always embedded or converted to outlines.

Rich black
For large black backgrounds: C30 M20 Y20 K100. Small text in black: pure K100. Rich black in text causes printing misregistration.

15.2 — Institutional stationery

Letterhead · envelope
and business card

Institutional stationery is the Church's identity in the physical world. Every letter sent, every envelope opened, every card handed over is an expression of the brand — and it needs the same visual rigor as the digital materials.

15.3 — Posters

A3 · A2 —
structure and margins

The poster is the most visible material in the Church's local communication. It has to work at a distance — with a clear typographic hierarchy, high contrast and the essential information in the upper or central third.

paper types and formats

Flyers are materials for distribution by hand — handed over at the door, left at reception, sent along with a parcel. The design has to be efficient: one main piece of information, one call, one contact.

15.5 — Certificates

Certificates stand for moments of recognition and commitment — baptism, the completion of a course, service. The quality of the printed piece has to match the moment it represents.

Control number
Every official certificate must carry a unique control number in the footer (e.g. SDARM-BR-2026-0001). This allows traceability and validates the authenticity of the document. The association office keeps the record of these numbers.
15.6 — Badges and credentials

Standard · event

Badges identify people at events and meetings. The SDARM system has three variants — standard for leadership, event for participants and departmental with the color of the sector.

15.7 — Bleed and margins

Table of values
by format

Bleed is the area that extends beyond the trim edge. It guarantees that the printer's cut never leaves a white edge, even with small variations in the cut. Every file sent to a printer needs bleed set up.

Bleed area — 3mm beyond the trim
Bleed (3mm)
Safe margin — content here
Trim line
All content (text, logo, important elements) must stay at least 5mm inside the trim line — within the safe area. Background elements that run to the edge must extend into the bleed.

15.8 — Pre-press checklist

12 items before
sending the file

This checklist should be worked through by anyone before sending a file to print. Tick each item — send only when all of them are complete. A file with any of these items outstanding will result in rework or a defective product.

0 of 12 items
Complete every item before sending to the printer.
A well-printed piece
speaks before it is read.
Quality is respect
A badly printed flyer, with the wrong colors or white edges, communicates carelessness — before a single word is read. Print quality is a statement about how the Church treats what it represents.
Global standardization
The specifications in this chapter apply to any field, in any country. A poster produced in Brazil and one produced in Germany should have the same production quality — even though they will never see each other.
The checklist saves money
Reprinting a batch of 500 flyers because of a font error or a wrong color costs more than the whole design. The checklist is not bureaucracy — it is economy.
Brand Manager's Note
"I have seen churches print 1,000 flyers with the wrong colors because the file was sent in RGB. And I have seen baptism certificates printed on generic 75g paper. These details matter — not out of perfectionism, but because a printed piece outlives the moment it represents."
